It’s new, well at least in these parts of Africa. And it is sexier than ever. We thought that we had seen everything in the new model feminine Vitz, but alas, the new Demio is a shocker. So delicate looking yet so agile, with curvaceous lines well set out on her sleek body. This car is small and a good looker too. Is her performance equal to her looks? We will see that and more in this review.
The Mazda Demio was declared winner of the ‘World Car Design of the Year’ in the year 2008. An improved version of the same was announced ‘The 2014-2015 Car of the Year’ by the Japan Car of the Year Committee.
The Mazda Demio is a hatchback that comes with 5-speed manual gear transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Mostly, what is more readily available in the market is the automatic transmission type. She is a front wheel drive, and has amazing fuel economy. This is a car that you can fuel even with a low amount of income every month and perhaps this explains why there are so many used Mazda Demio hatchbacks in East Africa today.
It can do 100 km on 9.7 liters of petrol, and that is quite a bargain and remember, this is in the city. On the highway, it can even deliver more as it does 100 km on 8.1 liters, much better than other hatchbacks in the market.
Since this is a hatchback, the boot/trunk is visible to everyone and therefore there will be no privacy, not unless you have tinted windows. However, that is nothing to worry you since the car delivers so well on all other expectations.
You will get power windows (single touch) and mirrors. The driver’s seat is height adjustable and the split folding rear seat will help you create more room if you have no passengers and would like to carry more stuff. This small car is perfect for a small urban family on moderate income.
Some of the other features that you will get include cup holders, air conditioning, interior air filtration, the steering wheel is tilt adjustable, the front doors have pockets for stuff and so on.
For safety, there is the front and the rear head airbags, tire pressure monitoring and traction control. Then there is the rear child door locks, the engine immobilizer and 4-wheel anti-lock braking system as well as side airbags for the front.
The Mazda Demio can carry 5 people, including the driver, comfortably, which makes it the ideal car for small families. It is also spacious with sufficient head, shoulder and legroom since it is bigger in all dimensions compared to some of the common hatchbacks.
Of course. Many users say that this car does not hold very stable around bends. So you will have to take that bend real slow. Again, if you hit a pothole, she will not be stable. Drive carefully.
