The drive train is a composition of all components or features in a motor vehicle which contribute to the transmission of the needed power to the wheels.
So, it only refers to those features that help in transmission of power. Therefore, the engine is an excluded component since it generates mechanical power.
In a manual transmission, these drive train features include the clutch, gearbox, the propeller shaft as well as the real axle. On the contrary, automatic drive trains have features which include; torque converter, real axle among many others.
How Manual Drive Train Works
The manual’s gearbox is connected to the engine with the use of a spring-loaded clutch. The gearbox plate is fixed facing both sides with a friction material. Here, several operations have to be done for the manual system to function. For example, the clutch has to be disengaged to facilitate the shift of the gears among other manual operations.
The manual transmissions let the driver or the operator take charge of the vehicle and use all the power of the engine when a need arises.
The Automatic Drive Train’s Complex Features
In an automatic drive train, several complex features are co-joined to produce a functioning movement of the auto vehicles. As in the case of gear exchange, computer-controlled hydraulic pressure enables the most suitable gear at every point when the vehicle is in motion.
Repairing manual drive trains is not a complex procedure since regular transmission problems can easily be identified and corrected by the existing mechanics. They may do so by adjusting the clutch pedal on the manual transmissions. Fixing existing problems is an easy task since the features causing the manual to behave abnormally can independently be repaired. The manual drive trains are more mechanical where any problem so identified from the vehicle’s drive train can easily be dealt with at a very low cost.
Finding manual drive trains or manual car mechanics is also an easy task since they are found in very many parts with their service points and garages easy to find. Competition among selves may contribute to their ability to provide cheap services to their customers.
On the contrary, automatic drive trains require specialized repair when any drive train problem is diagnosed. Since these drive trains are made of complex features, any diagnosed problem may require an experienced professional to deal with the identified abnormality.
A malfunctioning auto drive train may mean a series of repair functions to be done by the auto service providers who use complicated diagnosing procedures to identify the real problem.
These diagnoses attract hefty cost which in most cases may not be able offer the repair solution. In this case, the service provider may propose a further expensive repair based on their sole diagnosis
