You have to think of it as a pressing issue, especially when you look at the number of accidents and the fatalities in those accidents, traffic jams and so on. Getting the tips from many drivers and passengers, the solutions for these problems are well within reach . Car manufacturers do their part by producing very secure vehicles even if at the expense of speed.
But more still needs to be done. To lower the alarming number of accidents, many of which are caused by speeding and recklessness, laws have been put in place to control driving speeds. Cooperation between governments, manufacturers and dealers is key in this regard. Car manufactures and governments agree on certain aspects of car specifications to curb the menace of accidents due to speeding. One good way that has been practiced is the installation of speed governors. A good example of such agreements is between the Kenyan government and Toyota and Nissan companies .
Number of fatalities
As aforementioned, this is the responsibility all industry players and road users. Lets start with manufacturers: For instance, vehicles with better life saving gadgets have been proved to save lives in the event of accidents. Manufacturers should up their designs to include more lifesaving specs. Some of the most common ones are the safety belts, speed governors and air bags. There also other emerging technologies that are effective in saving life.
To arrest the situation of nagging traffic jams, higher capacity vehicles need to replace the small capacity ones. Vehicles with higher seater capacity will effectively reduce these jams by a good margin. A twenty seater vehicle can replace, say, 5 private sedans. Several manufacturers who target Africa are now producing higher capacity vehicles at the expense of the lower capacity ones.
Isuzu got it right!
One of the firms that is firmly on an upward trend of uplifting and maximizing the potential of the African mass transport industry is Isuzu. This firm has concentrated on the production of high capacity vehicles. Indeed, they are more known for their quite able buses, pick-up trucks, light and heavy commercial trucks as opposed to small capacity vehicles. To solve the problem of traffic jams and accidents, Isuzu from Japan already seems to have the solution to the problem- high capacity. As their quality meets international standards, the African (and other) markets will certainly gravitate towards it for their transport solutions.
